Hello. My name is Nichole Pangle, and I serve as the Executive Director for The Arc of Northern Shenandoah Valley. I have been involved with The Arc, in roles including member of the Board and Executive Director, since 2008.
What started out as a part-time job advocating for our friends with intellectual and developmental disabilities became a life-long position on April 13, 2009. This is the day my son was diagnosed with Autism.
Suddenly, my job took on a more personal meaning. Being the parent of a child with a disability is not without its challenges. There is no "how-to" manual for parenting when your child is diagnosed with a disability. There is also no map that can guide you on where you should start and which direction you should continue on. I've been there. Through my experiences, I am able to serve our local families in navigating an often complicated path and be supported by resources in the community. I take an individualized approach with each family I serve, as no two families will ever require the same supports and resources. Meetings are informal, generally over coffee, and allow me to get to know the needs of your family or loved one. We then identify what steps to take and what services would be beneficial to your loved one. We take a step-by-step approach, because let's face it. The system is overwhelming. I able able to meet families where they are--in times of joy, in times of crisis and in times of uncertainty. I serve families from the on-set of diagnoses to end of life. My hope is to serve you and your loved one with compassion and understanding. If you or a loved one needs assistance, please send me a message through the form below. I would be happy to serve your family.
